Diablo 2
RPG/adventure game. The game picks up where the original game left off, but with an entirely new set of characters, trying to defeat an even more powerful Diablo as he attempts to rescue his two captured brothers (Baal and Mephisto). All the quests are available for single- and multi-player games (for up to 8, over LAN or Net).
The new set of player characters come in five classes, each with their own strengths, weaknesses and special skills. Two are based on magic use, two on fighting and one is a hybrid.
The landscape is more alive than before, with animated features, such as flowing water. The graphics have been improved since the original, although the 3D landscape with isometric view remains. Characters are rendered in good 3D. The game's audio is now more varied and atmospheric.
Each character has a skill tree, allowing for differently skilled versions of each character to be developed, something that will be obvious in the multi-player game. There is a large amount of equipment, weapons and spells available through the game. A new addition to the gameplay, is the ability to hire mercenaries by the day to help you in your quest.
The game is divided into four main sections, each of which is based on a city and its dungeon areas. However, more of the action takes place outside the dungeon than in the first Diablo. As before the levels are partially randomly generated, with varying landscapes, building placing and events.
The NPCs in Diablo II are more well-rounded than in the first game. They'll be able to do more for you, such as teaching you magic and fighting skills.
