FA Premier League Stars
Soccer game with management component. The game features all twenty teams in the English Premier League, recreating the players and grounds in detail. The management element of the game involves the accumulation of 'stars'. Each player is attributed stars (gold, silver or bronze) to represent his particular spread of skills. You gain stars by performing well during matches and these can be distributed among your players.
Stars are earned not only for victories and well-executed goals, but also for areas like fair play and having the man of the match in your team. You can also build up stars to pay for transfers. It is possible to customize the teams, for instance to keep with developments in the real League.
Apart from the English domestic league a number other teams and competitions are included, some of which must be earned by doing well in the Premiership. These include the World super League and fictitious European Challenge cup.
In-game there are some differences from the other recent EA football titles, most noticeably in the control of the players. The player animation has been improved, and the graphics are generally good, although the players' faces are generic. Weather effects are included. You can adjust the speed of play and method of shot targeting.
The game incorporates a practice mode where you can hone your skills. Multi-player mode allows for two players to meet over LAN or on-line, and for more players to participate in a league.
Play is accompanied by a commentary provided by Richard Keys, Andy Gray and Martin Tyler and a dance music soundtrack from the Ministry of the Sound. Additional sound effects include the singing of the crowd, with local songs being sung at particular stadia.
