Fighter Ace 2
On-line combat flight sim set during WW2. The game offers over 30 flyable aircraft, both bombers and fighters, of five nations (UK, US, Germany, Japan, USSR). They are all historically accurate and reproduced in fine detail. Among the featured planes are the P-47D Thunderbolt, F4U-4 Corsair, P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang, B-17, the La-5FN, La-7, Pe-8, Focke-Wolfe 190 A and D, and the Stuka. A nice feature of the game is that from you can view all the aircraft from virtually any angle. The game offers training missions and then its on to the on-line multi-player missions. There are 'Free For All', 'Territorial' and 'Team Battle' options. In territorial games there are certain designated targets to be destroyed in order to gain control of an area. The game has three levels of increasing realism and difficulty (Arcade, Intermediate and Advanced). Handling is very realistic on the highest level and everything such as air conditions and damage are accurately reflected in the plane's handling.
Each game begins at the airfield and you must master the take-off and landing procedures. The airfields are accurately reproduced and are open to attack or various other obstructions. In-game you must keep an eye on your ammo and fuel levels, landing in order to restock when necessary.
The game boasts advanced graphics and both terrain and planes are well-rendered. The game's interface is simple and effective, the set-up menus are straightforward although they cover a myriad of options. As you'd expect the control are fairly complex but the multiple difficulty levels allow you to progress at your own speed.
