MechWarrior 4: Vengeance
Installment in this highly successful series of action games that feature giant warrior robots and are based on the Battletech RPG universe. This game has more focus on story and character than the previous games. The story revolves around a threat to a young duke, whose legitimate rule is being threatened by a usurper. In campaign mode you take control of a Mech and liaise with your side-men through a series of challenging combat-based missions. Good cutscenes intersperse the missions.
Each mission is preceded by a detailed briefing session. There is a good training mode to help you master the controls. The game offers new command options and improved graphics. Mechs are extensively customizable and numerous high-powered weapons are available. Alongside the single-player game is a strong multi-player mode, for tournaments, campaigns and capture-the-flag matches, over LAN and Net. There is also a mission editor.
