Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000
Follow-up to the highly successful Flight Simulator 98 This is a state-of-the-art civilian flight sim. Notably, this new version is compatible with the many add-ons released for the 98 game. The game is available in two versions - Standard and Professional. The professional version incorporates additional aircraft, cities and an aircraft editor. This sequel boasts many improvements in all areas. Graphics, physics model and sound have been modified. The game's interface has been simplified and there are excellent tutorials to help you get to grips with the complex business of controlling the craft. In addition you can fully plan your flight with charts and aviation articles. As well as the myriad of aircraft included in the first game, new craft have been added. Among these are Concorde and BA's Speedbird. In the professional edition you'll get the King Air 350 twin-prop and Mooney Bravo amongst others.
The game's graphics are impressive, craft, terrain and sky effects are rendered in detail. The cockpit of each plane is reproduced accurately. In terms of the terrain, elevated features are now much less blocky. Clouds, weather and light effects are now more realistic. It has also been made possible to download up-to-date weather conditions from the Net.
The game reproduces a vast area, with over 20,000 airports to choose from. Cities, such as Chicago, are included complete with their landmarks reproduced in detail. Together with the accurate physics engine and control system this makes for a realistic piloting experience.
There is some radio chatter to accompany play, including ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) announcements, although Air Traffic Control is absent.
