Ridge Racer 5
The fifth installment in this highly successful series of racing games is available for the PlayStation 2. A version is planned for Game Cube. The game offers advanced graphics and more subtle vehicle handling characteristics than the previous games in the series. Vehicles and environments are rendered in detail and the impressive lighting effects are showcased in the different times of day reproduced. There are seven tracks available, although they are mostly variants of each other.
The main single-player game option is Grand Prix mode, you to unlock many new vehicles as you progress. Other options include Time Attack and Duel Modes. Vehicles are customizable with new paint jobs and upgrades. You can also race against on a split screen. The car physics have been modified from the last game in the series, with even more emphasis on power-sliding. The controls are effective. A selection of high-energy tunes accompany play.
