Shadow Man
Action/adventure/platform game with horror overtones. This game is available for the PC, PlayStation and Nintendo 64. Its hellish setting and bad language incorporated in the game will make it unsuitable for the young or easily offended.
Your character, viewed in the third-person, has a wide range of moves at his disposal (including jumps and rolls), along with a wide range of weaponry. The game also incorporates some puzzle-solving sequences.
The game is set in New Orleans and voodoo magic plays a big part in the game's premise. You play Mike LeRoi, an assassin. In the human world he has limited physical and weapons capabilities. However, he is able to cross into the world of the dead ('Deadside'), where he becomes the Shadowman and has a range of spectacular powers and weapons.
There are more that 20 levels set in the two worlds. Most of the action takes place in the Deadside, where you must collect the souls of the dead. In the world of the living you must track down five infamous serial killers, including Jack the Ripper, and stop them from destroying the world.
The game's structure attempts to be non-linear, having gained new powers it is necessary to revisit previous levels to unlock new areas. An innovative feature of the weapons in the game is that they have the ability to be used in either hand and combinations produce different effects.
The game boasts good graphics and visual effects, and the hellish Deadside environments are very stylishly rendered. The sound effects are suitably ghoulish and there is also a spooky musical soundtrack.
As yet, there are no multi-player options available.
