Theme Park World
Available for PC and PlayStation.
Management sim. Sequel to the successful Theme Park. As well as managing your resources, you design must also your park. Success is determined by the virtual public (all children) who visit the park. The game begins with a basically empty park which you develop.
You must spend on research before you can build the big rides or buy more land to expand your park. There are various ways in which you can manipulate the visitors for greater profit, such as adding extra salt to the fries to make the customers drink more. You also manage your staff , employing entertainers and build shops, restrooms etc.
There are four types of park to choose from. Halloween and Lost Kingdoms (with a pre-historic feel to it) are available from the start whilst Fantasy and Space worlds must be unlocked. All are rendered lavishly in 3D (as expected graphics on a powerful PC are better than the PSX).
Each type of park has similar but uniquely styled attractions. The rides are not reality-bound, for instance you can board a mechanical bird and fly around the park. You design your own rollercoasters, being careful to balance appeal and excitement.
A major innovation of the game is the ability to switch into first-person view anywhere in the park, allowing a very direct experience of your park.
The control system is easy to use, employing a drag and drop system of control. The game offers a greater degree of controllability over the park and its components, such as rides, than its predecessor.
The game employs a 3D engine developed specifically for this game and it works well. There is also a musical score which reflects the type of park in play, such spooky music for a Halloween park.
The game boasts good Internet support for PC users, not only will new attractions be made available to download, but you can post your park on the net and allow others to explore it. In addition, a voting system will be included from which a league of the top 20 will be derived. It will also be possible to send theme park e-mail postcards.
