Spec Ops 2: Green Berets
Military tactical sim. You control teams of up to four men through a series of challenging missions. The game boasts improved graphics over the last game. It now has 3D support and interior and exterior environments are well-rendered.
The single-player game consists of four training missions followed by 25 further missions. Missions take place in five zones scattered around the globe (Germany, Pakistan, Korea, Antarctica and Thailand). There are three difficulty levels to add replayability to the game. There is also a multi-player options with six maps for group deathmatches or cooperative team games.
Mission are no longer timed. New weapons have been added including the LR300 supergun and OICW rifle. Smoke as well as explosive grenades are also present.
You can view your men from a first- or third-person perspective. You can control each member of the team individually or issue orders to the group as a whole.
Characters have a wide range of moves at their disposal. They can lie, crouch, crawl, run and swap weapons with their team mates. The control system is effective and you can reassign the control keys to suit your own style.
A major strength of the game is the physics engine, which makes the gameplay feel realistic. The AI is generally good.
You select the members of your team. There are six individuals to choose from, each with their own specialist skills in areas such as demolitions or sniper use.
The game's graphics are impressive. Lighting effects, in particular, have been improved. For instance, soldiers now carry torches and there are searchlights featured in the game. Character animation is also much better than before. The game's audio is also of a high standard with weapon sounds being sampled from the actual guns.
