Worms: Armageddon
Turn-based strategy game and third in this successful series. Up to four teams of up to six (or even eight) worms do battle on stylized 2D landscapes. There are turn time-limits, the length of which can be adjusted. Teams can be human- or computer-controlled. On PC, it is possible to play on-line.
Worms Armageddon incorporates new game modes, items and weapons. Among the game modes are three difficulty levels, as well as various other options such as shopping mode (where more weapons crates fall from the sky).
An important feature of the game are the 36 single-player missions. The missions are well-designed to test a variety of skills. Objectives vary and often it is necessary to achieve a specific goal rather than just killing all worms in sight. There is also a good training mode.
Using a range of weapons, defensive tools and items, which allow you to traverse the landscape, you take on enemy worms. Weapons include bazookas, cluster bombs and dynamite. Among the new weapons are concrete donkeys (which destroy all in the path of their fall from the sky) and Indian Nuclear Test (which makes the landscape shake and leaves all the worms with radiation poisoning)! Tools include blowtorches and jet packs.
In-game employs a simple menu system that allows you to select your weapons easily. You position your sight and then control the force of your shot by holding down fire.
The landscapes are randomly generated with a limited selection of environment types, including those featuring teddy bears and dentist's equipment. The graphics are fairly simple but effective. A good range of amusing speech samples accompany play and you can select which type you want. Ambient music is also incorporated.
