X: Beyond the Frontier
Space action game. It is a free-roaming game, you can trade, take on assignments and form various allegiances. et A wider narrative is developed through scripted sequences that intersperse the action.
You begin with a ship, capable of rapid interstellar travel, and a 100 credit loan. From here, you work your way up to a better ship. There is a vast area to explore, covering many solar systems, each with its own races, resources and industries. The trading process is richly complex. Along the way, you gather information by talking to those you encounter and communications are conducted via a multiple-choice dialogue function.
There is an overall mission to complete, with the ultimate goal of returning to Earth. The game also allows for open-ended play. The game's 3D graphics and visual effects are good. Music accompanies play.
