Star Trek TNG: Hidden Evil
Third-person action-adventure game, formerly title Star Trek Insurrection. The game's action picks up nine months after the events portrayed in the movie, Star Trek IX Insurrection. You play Ensign Sovok who is sent on a mission to the planet featured in the movie (Bak'u), as a member of a team led by Jean-Luc Picard and including Data. Once there, you uncover a plot by the Romulans which you have to attempt to avert without causing a major incident.
You gain points and eventually promotion by completing a series of missions. The gameplay involves exploration, stealth, combat, interaction with numerous NPCs and puzzle-solving. Your character makes use of items, such tricorders and phasers. Orders and advice are provided by Data and Picard (voiced by the actual actors). It is sometimes necessary to perform actions in tandem with other members of the crew.
The control system is a straightforward and the graphics good.
The voices of the captain and Data are provided by Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner, the actors who play them in the series and movies, adding a further dimension to the game.
The game marries detailed 2D rendered backgrounds with 3D objects and effects and the graphics are generally impressive. The rendering and animation of the characters is also good.
