Hype: The Time Quest
This game is available for N64 and PC. It is aimed primarily at kids. Set in a fantasy medieval-inspired universe, this game features characters based on the popular Playmobil toy figures.
The main character is a young knight called Hype. The game begins when he is turned to stone and sent back in time by his enemy, the Black Knight Barnak. He is revived by a wizard and begins a quest that takes him through four time periods on his way to defeating Barnak.
The game is divided into large 13 levels. The gameplay combines RPG and fighting action. You'll guide Hype as he explores the levels, interacts with the numerous NPCs in the game, tackles puzzles and engages enemies. In addition, there are other activities, such as jousting tournaments, included in the game.
Hype is equipped with a sword and along the way he also gains a crossbow and other useful equipment, as well as magical spells. You'll have a limited amount of cash and have to decide what to buy from the merchants you encounter. There are twelve spells to find, they come in three types based on the elements of fire, electricity and ice.
You view Hype from a third-person perspective and the camera system in this game is generally effective.
The game boasts good 3D graphics (particularly good on a decent PC) and well designed levels. The game includes and good range of sound effects (and numerous speech samples in the PC version). There is also a fitting musical soundtrack.
