Mario Kart 64
3D update of the popular Mario Kart that appeared on the SNES. This fun
racing game features cartoon-style racers and go-kart vehicles. Up to four can play in
multi-player mode.
There are three main game options; Grand Prix championship, versus and battle modes.
The championship option is not available when more than two are playing. A time trial
mode is available in single player mode. In all modes, except time-trial, weapons are
available. These are picked up from boxes that appear on the track and include homing
shells, invincibility and speed-ups
You can choose to play any of the eight characters featured inthe game, each of whom has
their own handling characteristics. Most are familiar from the SNES version of the game
and include well-known Nintendo characters, such as the Mario brothers, Donkey Kong
and Bowser.
Tracks are grouped into four cups, each with four tracks, of increasing difficulty. They
cover a good range of track types and settings and incorporate some impressive jumps.
Some of the more interesting settings are a highway with traffic moving in the opposite
direction, a haunted dock and Bowser's castle.
There are three speeds to choose form (50cc, 100cc and 150cc). Upon completion of all
the championships in Grand Prix mode you earn a further option, 'Extra', which allows
you to race the tracks backwards.
The game's 3D graphics are bright and colorful. There are a range of amusing sound
effects that accompany play and each track has its own tune.
