Michael Owen World League Soccer 99
Soccer game. The game incorporates many teams,
specifically the international teams along with some 200 domestic teams from Europe,
USA and Japan. You can choose from numerous competition structures including leagues
and Cup championships. It is also possible for you to design your own competitions. The
gameplay is a balance between the action of an arcade game and the realism of a sim.
The game is highly customizable, you can adjust many areas of the game from rules to
pitch conditions. There are ten stadia to choose from and different weather conditions,
including snow, are recreated. However, it is not possible to edit the teams or players.
The graphics are good, despite the fact that the game does not employ the Expansion Pak.
The background, including the crowd, looks OK. The players are well animated utilizing
motion capturing provided in part by Owen himself. However, players do not resemble
their actual counterparts and the game relies instead on generic faces. Somewhat oddly,
whilst the teams are in the right colors, there strips are not accurately rendered.
The control system is easy-to-use, the four buttons implement a range of fairly basic
actions and it also possible to perform so more tricky maneuvers. It is possible to
accurately control passes making for smooth and satisfying play. A handicap system
allows you to make for fairer matches against more inexperienced players
This game has a good replay function that allows you to watch your goals from multiple
angles and even see the build up to the goals from the view of the ref and linesmen. Play is
accompanied by a TV-style commentary provided by Peter Brackley and a range of
appropriate sound effects including crowd noise.
