    Description
Adventure game set in the 'Land of the Dead' - an underworld based on Mexican folklore. The land is divided into levels and it is every soul's desire to reach the ninth underworld.

You play Manny - one of several agents who are responsible for attracting soul 'clients' and arranging their transport to the ninth and last underworld. Depending on how they lived their life they can traverse the underworld levels in various ways, for instance by car or super-fast train. The less-good must travel by foot, with a resulting journey time of four years. The game begins when Manny follows one of his clients after she is forced to travel on foot after he is unable to get the prized train ticket she deserves, beginning a trail of corruption within the organization.

The game uses a mixture of 3D characters and flat pre-rendered backgrounds. The backgrounds are sumptuous, blending many different styles with a film noir atmosphere. As you progress through the game you pick up items to help you and talk to the characters you encounter. The game also incorporates puzzle elements, which have to be solved on your way to completing the adventure.

The game's characters are particularly well drawn and their voicing is another of the game's many strengths. There is plenty of humor in the dialogue. As in other adventure games from LucasArts, there are multiple dialogue choices for your character which adds to the depth of the game.

Grim Fandango represents a significant departure for LucasArts' adventure games. It employs a new engine and interface. Of note is that the mouse-driven control interface has been replaced by a new keyboard-based interface.
