Kingpin: Life of Crime
First person shoot em' up. Kingpin is a particularly violent game with a large amount of blood and incidental foul language. However, in terms of game-play, graphics and especially AI it excels. For the more squeamish and the young, there is a less gore and swear-free install available.
Kingpin is divided into six 'episodes'. They are set in various city/industrial environments, all of which are connected to a central group of buildings which include the local bar and the 'Pawn-o-matic' (where you buy your hardware). In the bar, as elsewhere in the game, you can talk to the people, get tips about your mission and hire people to join your gang. Throughout the game you interact with various NPCs (generally of the seedier sort) and as a nice touch you have a choice of tone with which to address them - hostile, neutral or friendly.
The game has four difficulty levels. There is also a multi-player death-match option.
The shooting action is rendered with great detail, involving a gratuitous amount of gore, and the 3D graphics are excellent. The game utilizes a much-modified Quake II engine.
