Nocturne
Horror adventure game that employs impressive graphics.
Set in a 1930s inspired world, you play a character named the Stranger who is a member of a team, known as the Spookhouse. The Spookhouse have been charged with ridding the earth of monstrous creatures including zombies, werewolves, vampires, ghouls, and even undead mobsters! Along the way you'll also interact with many NPCs, some of who will accompany you through sections of the game.
The game is divided into four chapters with varied objectives and enemies. It has a non-linear structure and you enter any of the four chapters from the beginning.
You view the Stranger in the 3rd-person and he is easy-to-control. The menu system is also well-designed.
The game covers a wide range of locations, including forests, castles, cemeteries, catacombs and, spectacularly, the interior of hell. The gameplay consists primarily of combat and exploration combined with some puzzle-solving.
A range of weapons are at the Stranger's disposal including laser-sighted pistols, crossbow, ax, grenades and a holy relic. Weapons and ammo must be collected in-game.
The game employs advanced 3D graphics and visual effects. In order to get the most from this game you'll need a powerful computer. The game combines detailed pre-rendered backgrounds with excellent character animation and lighting effects. Characters are well drawn and animated, right down to clothes-movement simulation. Static camera views are used and this system works well to add to the game's cinematic feel.
The sound effects and music employed in the game add to the spooky atmosphere. The voice acting is also good. In-game music is limited, but fitting tunes accompany intros and cut-scenes.
