Sonic Adventure
As in the previous games in the series the gameplay combines platform and racing elements. It also incorporates RPG elements and a virtual-pet function.
There are two game options: Adventure Field (the main single-player game) and Action Field (a time-trial mode). The environments and characters are rendered in lavish 3D. There are also some spectacular visual effects.
In the main game, Sonic must once again thwart his old adversary Dr. Robotnik who has a new and powerful ally on his side, a mutable monster called Chaos. The size and power of Chaos increases as the game progresses, making him a challenging foe.
There are three main areas which have to be conquered by Sonic in this game. They are Station Square, a modern city, Mystic Ruin, a rich landscape that incorporates ancient ruins and the Egg Carrier, Dr. Robotnik's aerial base. As in the previous titles, there are numerous secrets to discover.
During the game Sonic interacts with other characters. In addition, this game builds on the trend of including playable characters, apart from Sonic himself. Many of the playable characters are familiar as enemies, or other NPCs, from the previous games. Apart from Tails 'Miles' Prower, the two-tailed fox, you can also play Knuckles the Echidna (who can scale walls), Amy Rose (who has a special jump and weapon), E-102 'Gamma' (who is armed with a laser), Big the Cat (who can use a variety of weapons starting with only a fishing rod!) and Super Sonic (a souped-up version of Sonic).
Each of the additional characters can be played when discovered and each has its own mission to be completed. (You can choose to complete their mission at the time of discovery or come back to it later).
Adding another dimension to the game is the inclusion of the 'Chaos Creatures'; that can be found in-game as eggs. They can then be hatched, fed and transferred to your VM unit. From here the tamagotchi-like creatures can be traded and entered into special Chaos Creature races.
