Shadow Company: Left for Dead
3D real-time strategy game. You control a group of mercenaries chosen from a selection of men each with their own skills profile.
The main single-player game is a campaign of nine missions set within an overall narrative that covers locations scattered around the world. Mission objectives vary, but generally missions involve penetrating enemy bases and completing a set of specific military tasks.
Upon the completion of each mission you receive a cash payment that can be spent on hiring men and buying equipment. A large selection of weapons are incorporated including automatics, shotguns and a sniper rifle. Your group are not limited to traveling on foot and a variety of vehicles, including tanks and boats, also come into play.
Missions are introduced through a comprehensive briefing section. There is also a detailed mission planning phase. There are effective annotated maps to help in this process. You can change the members of your group and their equipment at this stage. The control and menu systems are fairly complex and in-mission each man must be controlled separately.
As well as the main campaign missions, there is also a multi-player option.
The 3D graphics employed in this game are of a high standard with excellent lighting and other visual effects. Landscapes are also lavishly rendered. The AI is generally adequate and a range of atmospheric sound effects accompany play.
