Battlezone 2
Action/strategy game. Sequel to the acclaimed Battlezone. The game combines first person combat, command and resource management.
The detailed plot follows on from the previous game. It is premised on an invasion of the solar system by an alien race (the Scions) and is based on an alternative history of the Cold War in which space travel has been perfected.
You play a commander who is part of a joint Russian and American force (the ISDF or International Space Defense Force). The game's 28 missions take place set on seven worlds. Some missions take place at night and weather conditions vary. The missions begin on Titan, where the first game left off. A worm-hole allows you to travel outside Earth's solar system to truly alien worlds which are lavishly rendered. Apart from the threat posed by the Scions each world has a variety of indigenous life which will attack.
You can operate a variety of ships or travel on foot. There is a wide range of weapons at your disposal. New unit types, over 30 new vehicles and 25 new weapons have been added. As the men under your command gain experience their skill levels improve, making their loss costly.
In-game both first-person and top-down views are employed. The level of customization of your units is variable, so you can choose to exercise more or less control.
The game employs advanced 3D graphics and AI.
The game incorporates a level editor. There are multi-player options, including death-match and co-operative modes of play.
