Winback: Covert Operations

Action game set in the world of espionage. An terrorist group have taken control of a military satellite. You control a member of an elite force (the Strategic Covert Actions Team) a character named Jean-Luc Cougar who must track down and defeat the terrorists.

The main single-player game consists of four main areas each with a number of missions. There is also the multi-player deathmatch option, for up to four players. The action takes place in a variety of well-designed installations.

You control Jean-Luc from a third-person perspective and the camera system in this game works well. The control system is fairly complex, largely due to the number of moves available, but once mastered it is highly effective.

There is a limited selection of useable weapons in the game; specifically a normal pistol, silenced pistol, shotgun, automatic rifle, rocket launcher and explosive charge. Among Jean-Luc's extensive range of moves is the unusual 'Swing Out - Swing Back' surprise attack system that allows Jean Luc to move stealthily with his back pressed to the wall before swinging out for a sneak attack before returning to his position of safety. Using cover is an important part of the gameplay. The weapons targeting system is effective.

The game's graphics are good and a range of atmospheric sound effects and music are incorporated.
