House of The Dead 2
Goulish shoot 'em up that favors use of a lightgun. This title first appeared in the arcade although modification have been made to the Dreamcast version.
The game's premise is that zombies are on the rampage. Armed with a gun your character must defeat them. The horror-theme makes this game potentially unsuitable for the younger gamer.
There are two main game options; Arcade and Original modes. The main difference is that there are more power-ups and other goodies scattered around the levels. There is a multi-player mode for two people.
The zombies come in may forms and they are not limited to humans since other animals also get the zombie treatment. All are vividly rendered, as are the bloody/slimy effects of combat. You will need to develop a good aim as the difficulty increases significantly as the game goes along.
The graphics, including backgrounds and character animation are excellent. There are a wide range of atmospheric sound effects, including speech samples and some black comedy.
The game is divided into six levels. The structure of each is not purely linear. There are alternative routes through the chapters. The route you take is dependent on the quality of your performance. In order to help you keep track of you game experience when you die a map is displayed showing your route. At the end of each level is a boss. There is a useful practice option, Boss mode, to help you refine your boss-slaying skills.
There are four difficulty levels that add significantly to the replayability value of the game. The game also has a ranking section that adds further challenge once the game has been completed initially.
